My three biggest lessons from three years in business

Wow, 3 years of Beauty Reclaimed Mudgee - I can hardly believe it! When the idea to open a cosmetic injectables clinic in Mudgee first started in my head, I never imagined I’d be where I am today. And while a lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into making this dream a reality, I put my success largely down to my beautiful clients, who have supported me every day for the past three years.

So, in honour of Beauty Reclaimed’s big third birthday, I’ve taken some time to reflect, and come up with the three biggest lessons I’ve learned over the past three years.

1. Don’t sweat the small stuff

In recent times, worrying has become our default state. But what I’ve learned is that worrying doesn’t solve your problems. Your business will grow and evolve because you put hard work in and stay your own course - not because you worry about everything.

Instead of fretting about what others think of you, focus on backing yourself and your ideas, working hard, and staying focused on your goals.

The other thing we all tend to worry about is trying to please everyone. You’re never going to be every person’s cup of tea - and there will be people who have absolutely no interest in your business ideas. And that’s ok! It’s not your job to please everyone; it’s your job to find out who your audience is, and then support them with your offering.

2. Love your customers

Having an amazing community of clients is the most rewarding part of being a business owner. It’s also essential if you want your business to succeed. Once you’ve identified who your target market is, the next step is to earn their loyalty.

The way I’ve been able to do that is by treating clients like I would my closest friends or family. Build a loyalty program to reward the people supporting your business, and always show your appreciation for their support. Remember that your customers are more than just dollar signs - they’re priceless!

Focus on how you can best support them through your work -  for me, that’s by offering support and talking things through while they’re in the chair, endless smiles and hugs (when it’s Covid-safe!) and treating customers how I like to be treated. As a result, I’m lucky enough to call many of my clients friends.

3. Stay true to yourself

When you go into business, every new step is scary and it’s natural to doubt yourself. But I’ve learned that believing in yourself and doing what you know is best is the smartest move you can make.

Don’t compromise on quality - even if it means spending a few more dollars - and always remember that you’re the expert, so trust your gut on big decisions. Don’t compromise on your pricing either - know what you’re worth and ask for it. By being your authentic self, being confident in your offering, and by providing a quality service or product, your reputation will grow and your business will thrive.

I have so many wonderful people to thank for all of Beauty Reclaimed Mudgee’s success over the years. And while this isn't exactly how I wanted to celebrate this milestone, I can’t wait to get back in the clinic and share the next three years with you all!
